THE INCEPTION

As a motoring enthusiast, Peter has an affection for British sports cars having owned many MGs, Triumphs and Jaguars himself over the years. As the MD of restoration company RBW Classic & Sports Cars, Peter could see that these vehicles faced an uncertain future in the modern world. He saw the potential for an electric car that had all the benefits of a modern vehicle but with the aesthetic appeal of a beautiful classic car. And so RBW Electric Classic Cars evolved.

From the outset, he wanted to create an “electric” system that could be sympathetically applied to different classic cars without degradation to the car and with a clear focus on “safety first”.

With safety the number one priority we ensured we sourced BEST IN CLASS components, not second-hand electric vehicle parts, but BRAND NEW approved parts. We had to ensure safety of our modern classics.

RBW wrote to a number of companies and one of the WORLD LEADERS in automotive EV solutions contacted us… ZYTEK Automotive, who are owned by CONTINENTAL AG and operate within the Continental Engineering Services Group (CES) were only six miles away from our facility, Formula E champions with a long history of EV development, perfect! When you think Continental, you think tyres, right? Well that’s £14billion of the Continental empire. CES, design, build and manufacture components, electric motors and safety systems for many of the top car manufacturers on the planet, with a turnover of £48billion, 266,000 employees. In automotive terms, they are world technology leader.

Our thinking, design and ethos was engaged by Continental Engineering Services with whom we contracted in the development of the RBW Electric Car.

This was just the beginning…
